Blue Peter Sailing Dinghy - Boat cover

There aren't any commercially available boat covers for this variety of boat, so I made a template from paper and cut one from some old canvas I was given by another kind member of my (Reading) Sailing Club. Thanks Monica!

The cover worked, but being very old fabric, it didn't look very attractive, so I was encouraged to make some from new fabric using the first as a template...

I've inserted a plastic 40mm waste pipe in the mast step, this has a 90 elbow and a longer piece that runs to the transom. The idea is to stop rain puddling and stretching the cover - which works, but not perfectly.

Here it is with a delighted customer.

Sadly, I cannot recommend the fabric as it didn't last - the UV light rotted it despite being for outdoor use (when I re-made it, the fabric I then used is brilliant, though not in this colour sadly).

I had a few left over pieces of fabric. so I made a sail bag for the foils and other bits. Incidentally, this has lasted really well - but then it's not in the sun for more than an hour or so each time the boat is used.

Here is the 3rd attempt at the cover (this time with fabric that was as UV resilient as the source claimed).

Sailing Cover under construction

Here the cover is mid construction. You can see that I've got the main part of the cover cut and shaped to fit, the sides are hemmed and the elastic threaded through. Next step will be to stitch these parts together to make the whole.
